Troubleshooting Your Automatic Transmission

Brake Bands
Part First and reverse gear brake band
Wear Brake band lining chipped. Groove in band not visible.
Solution Replace brake band.
Part Second gear brake band
Wear Brake band lining chipped.
Solution Replace brake band.
Part Second gear brake band
Wear Friction surface must be coarse, not glazed. Black coloring is okay if groove is visible.
Solution Reuse brake band.
Forward clutch drum/Piston for direct and reverse clutch
Part Forward clutch drum
Wear Radial grooves in clutch housing.
Solution Reuse clutch housing.
Replace clutch discs and hub.
Part Forward clutch drum
Wear Reverse side of forward clutch shows wear due to defective direct and reverse clutch.
Solution Reuse forward clutch.
Part Piston for direct and reverse clutch
Wear Piston is warped due to heat.
Solution Replace piston.

Wear Contact area for clutch disc is smooth.
