How-To: Folding the rear seat forward in a Mk1

Folding the rear seat forward in a Mk1 Cabriolet

How To Put The Back Seat Down
Should be obvious...but to some of us....well....

Not everybody knows how to put their back seat down. Particularly new Cab owners who are missing their car's manual.

Well, I'm here to put an end to the confusion. And probably create some more unintentionally

It's really very simple to operate; like the RONCO Dinosaur Catapult or the RONCO Time Machine/Easy Bake Oven.

Step 1:

Open your trunk (forgive my dirty Cab).

Step 2:

Locate the knob on the left side of the trunk. I'm pointing at it with my key, but when you find yours you don't have to do that.

Step 3:

Pull the knob in this fashion.

Leave the trunk open after you pull the knob out a little. It'll only move about a half an inch.

Step 4:

Go to the drivers side and push the front seat forward.

On the back seat (upper part), in between where it meets the plastic piece on your far right you should find a plastic strap.
In the pic I pointed to a general vicinity of where the strap can be found. I leave mine out a little bit.

If you can't seem to find the strap, don't worry. Just pull the backing of the seat foam away from the hard plastic on the right and try to find the lever with an eyelet in it.

Step 5:

Once you have located the strap (or just the lever if you are strapless), pull it towards you and hold it. It will unlatch the back seat backing.

Step 6:

Pull the seat back towards you.

Close your trunk and you're done!

Now the seat is down for anything you want. Snowboards, Xmas presents, very tall passengers, etc.
