Installing vapor barriers.

Vapor barrier installation.
If you don't know how to remove your door panels, click here

Today I finally put door panels in the car. Decided to take pictures of the process Since I had my camera at hand. So here we go.

Things needed:

  • Door
  • Door panel
  • Vapor barrier
  • Sealing tape or adhesive spray. (I prefer Permacel)

Since I haven't had door panels since I bought the car, and I doubt the car has had door panels for a few years, first thing I did was go to the yard and find a clean set of door panels and a nice set of vapor barriers that I could use. If your vapor barriers are in bad shape, you can use painters plastic (the stuff they cover everything with) or any plastic that can easily be trimmed.

At this point, I cleaned the surface with simple green where I put the adhesive tape to ensure a nice bond. I used permacel for this since it's awesome stuff. I used it when machining almost everything. Allows you to not use a vice if you prep clean the surfaces well. ONLY thing that will release the adhesive is denatured alcohol.

Next I poked through the tape to find all the mounting holes for the clips and also so I can align the original vapor barrier on the new tape. My high quailty hole finder/puncture tool.

Line up vapor barrier and seal it up well.

Final step is to put the door panel on. Align the clips and press each one individually and somewhat gently. Put on the surround on the handle and the window crank. Viola, done.

I know, it's an easy one, but it's nice to not have water coming in through your door panel. Razz
